Seal Types
Factory sealed items are among the most popular collectibles authenticated by Video Game Authority (VGA). Collectors appreciate sealed video games because they are original, have never been used, and are often extremely rare. In many ways these items are not just collectibles; they are historical, and VGA has proudly preserved factory sealed games for over a decade.
Video games have been produced for mass retail consumption since the 1970s, and during that time publishers, distributors, and retailers have developed and applied a variety of packaging standards, including factory seals. Below are the seal types commonly found on video games:
ADHESIVE BAG SEAL
A resealable bag, often used in Japan for Sony PlayStation’s PSone Books series.
GLUE SEAL
An adhesive seal where glue has been applied to the box flaps. Glue seals will not receive a seal grade.
H-OVERLAP SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that has seams along the left and right sides of the box, and a horizontal overlapping of the plastic along the back of the box.
H-SEAM SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that has seams along the left and right sides of the box connected by a horizontal seam along the center back of the box forming an “H” pattern.
LRB SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with a 3-sided seam running along the left, right, and bottom of the box.
LRT SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with a 3-sided seam running along the left, right, and top of the box.
LRTB SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with a 4-sided seam running along the left, right, top, and bottom of the box.
LR TUBE SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with an open top and 2 seams along the left and right side of the box.
LTB SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with a 3-sided seam running along the left, top, and bottom of the box.
OPEN TUBE SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that is open at the top and bottom of the box.
RTB SEAL
A plastic wrap seal with a 3-sided seam running along the right, top, and bottom of the box.
STICKER SEAL
An adhesive sticker seal that is applied directly to the box.
TAPE SEAL
An adhesive tape seal that is applied directly to the box.
TUBE SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that is open at the top of the box and has a seam running along the bottom of the box.
V-OVERLAP SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that has seams along the top and bottom of the box, and a vertical overlapping of the plastic along the back of the box.
V-SEAM SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that has seams along the top and bottom of the box connected by a vertical seam along the center back of the box forming a “V” pattern.
Y-FOLDS SEAL
A plastic wrap seal that overlaps along the side of the box with excess plastic folded over the top and bottom forming “Y” patterns.
